Syrian army carried out a chemical attack on its own people in the year 2017-18! OPCW investigation revealed

The UN-monitored Commission OPCW has said in a report that the Syrian army carried out a chemical attack in the Sharaqib area in 2018. Nerve agents and chlorine gas were used in this.

On the night of 4 February 2018, the Syrian Army carried out a chemical attack on the Sharaqib town with a helicopter. Evidence of this has been met during the investigation of the International National Prohibition of Arms Commission (OPCW / Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons).

The Commission has released its report three years after the incident. The report has also been submitted to the UN Director General Antonio Gutares. It said that the Commission had full grounds to believe that the Syrian Army had attacked the common people with a deadly chemical attack that night with chlorine gas.

The findings of the investigation team in its second report have stated that chlorine gas was used in it. One of its cylinders was dropped from the helicopter. Its gas had spread very rapidly in the area, affecting at least a dozen people. However, no one was killed in this attack. Let us tell you that in the attack of chlorine gas, people start to have eye irritation and breathing problems. Its excessive use can even kill a human being.

The report has expressed deep concern by UN Secretary-General Gutares. He said in a press conference in this regard that this is a matter of great concern, which the UN strongly condemns. He said that such an attack cannot be tolerated anywhere else.

It is also necessary to bring responsible people within the ambit of law and to punish them. He said that those who are responsible for this should be traced. Let us tell you that the area in which this attack took place comes under the control of the Tiger Forces of the Syrian Air Force.

The UN Secretary-General also said during this time that there was no cooperation from the Syrian government in the investigation. The government has neither responded to the salutes asked by the Commission of Inquiry nor received the information sought. This is a gross violation of the Sheer Chemical Wapons Convention.

Significantly, the commission had released its first report in the year 2020 regarding this attack. It said that the Syrian army had a chemical attack at Alltameenah in March 2017. In this, the nerve agent gas, which shortly after suffocates a human being, takes its life, and chlorine gas was used.

Let us also tell you here that OPCW, the executive body of the UN Convention, has about 193 member countries. This Commission monitors the efforts to rid the world of chemical wapons completely and for this. It came into existence in 1997. After its existence, about 98 percent of chemical wipes were destroyed from the world.
